One way to lower your golf score is to work on putting. Those 3 putts can sneak up on you and ruin your game, if you let them. Here are a few putting tips to help you reduce those 3 putts:neil_putt

Focus on distance control. Distance control is more important than direction because most 3 putts are caused by hitting the ball too short or too long. Also, distance helps control direction.

Start by lining up your putt for direction then take some practice swings next to your actual putt while engaging your target with your eyes. Looking at the ground and your stroke on a practice swing shifts your focus to mechanics instead of feel. Similar to throwing sports, you want to keep your eye on the target.

After your practice swings, look down at the ball, use the swing you practiced and feel the distance. Your distance control will improve and you can say goodbye to those 3 putts.

Test out different putters to make sure you’re using the right putter length, grip and head for your style. A putter should feel just right in your hands.

Putting can make or break your game so make sure to show up early for your tee-time and roll some puts in. Dedicate time to your putting at the practice areas or take a lesson or clinic for some more instruction. Our Golf Professionals are trained in putter fitting, schedule a putter fitting lesson this summer to find the right putter for your game.
