Welcome back to tennis season!  Before the season starts, we all know what we are supposed to do to get in shape. You know, get off of the sofa, do some stretching, some weights and some cardio, but doing it - that’s another thing! Let me stress that you really need to do all of these things to play at your best, really enjoy the game and avoid injuries.  Here are some exercises to get you started: tennis_group

  • Cardio – Try biking, hiking, walking or any of the cardio equipment at the Rec Center or your home gym including the treadmill, stair stepper, and elliptical.  Participate in a group fitness class at the Rec Center. A group setting can often help push you to the next level plus the upbeat music will brighten your day! Zumba® or dance aerobics classes are great for cardio, footwork, and coordination.  Or take a spin class for cardio, strength and stamina or any strength conditioning class.
  • Stretching - Yoga and Pilates are both fantastic choices as they stretch and work your core muscles at the same time. This is very important for tennis and helps your balance and movement on the courts.
  • Fitness and Strength - Weights, TRX and bands are great options for building core strength and good fitness.  If you don’t already have a good routine, make an appointment with one of our personal trainers at the Rec Center by calling (775) 832-1188. Even just one session can get you going and help you establish a personalized fitness regimen.

The good news is that so many of you skied a bunch this winter so your legs and core are already strong. Good luck, get out there and we’ll see you on the courts! Stop by the Pro Shop, visit InclineTennis.com, or call 775-832-1235 to purchase Tennis Memberships, clinics, gear or get more information.
