Darren Howard became a PGA Class A Professional in 1991. Prior to joining Incline Village he was at various prestigious country clubs including, Palmetto Dunes Resort, Hilton Head, SC; Long Cove Club, Hilton Head, SC; The Dye Preserve, Jupiter, FL; Colleton River Plantation, Hilton Head, SC; Old Tabby Links, Beufort, SC; Blackthorn Club, Johnson City, TN and The Clubs at Houston Oaks, in Houston, Texas. Throughout his career, Darren has organized and executed many events both on a local and national level. The main goal at every club Darren has been at is to take that club to a higher level of service and standards. Kyle Thornburg joined the Incline Village Golf Team in 2013 as the Tournament Coordinator/Assistant Golf Professional. Kyle played four years of high school varsity golf, then two years at the collegiate level while attending Monterey Peninsula College. Kyle has worked for some of the top golf courses in the world, including Cypress Point Golf Club and The Arizona Country Club. Kyle graduated from The Golf Academy of America in 2011 and received his Class A, PGA Membership, in 2015. Ashley Wood, a PGA of America Professional and a certified fitness professional, returns to the Lake Tahoe community of Incline Village after serving as the Head PGA Professional and Director of Fitness at the prestigious Presidio Golf & Concordia Club in San Francisco, from 2016-2019. Wood a native to Incline Village started both skiing and golfing at a young age and has always loved the Tahoe lifestyle. After graduating from Incline High School, she then earned a spot on the San Diego State University (SDSU) Division I Women’s Golf team and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology. She then attended graduate school at SDSU earning a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology with emphasis in athletic development and sports and exercise psychology. Ashley also was an Assistant Golf Professional at the non-profit Pro Kids –The First Tee of San Diego as well as Assistant Women’s Golf Coach at her alma mater SDSU. She has a passion for helping others live a happy and healthy lifestyle through the game of golf and is very excited to be back in her hometown where she can give back to a community that gave her so much. Neil Gunn comes to Incline Village as a Lead Golf Instructor from TPC Sawgrass and World Golf Village in Saint Augustine, Florida, where he has been employed with the PGA Tour Academy since 2003. Prior to that, he was the Lead Golf School Instructor for the PGA of America at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida. During his time at both facilities Neil has worked with several Top-100 Teachers in America, drawing from their vast knowledge and experience to perfect his instruction methods. Neil also travels nationally teaching golf clinics for Fortune-500 companies as well as Junior golf in Malaysia and Singapore. Neil Gunn grew up in Toronto, Canada and graduated from Slippery Rock University in PA. He has played in many mini-tour events and has a career low score of 66 in competition. He has great knowledge of the swing and continues to add to his knowledge base through PGA continuing education. His greatest asset though, is his interpersonal skills and relaying key elements of the golf swing in easy to understand language. Neil is happy to be returning to Incline Village and working hard for the residents and guests of Incline Village this summer.
After college, Rob moved to Southern California to attend the San Diego Golf Academy. He worked at the Championship Golf Course from 1996 – 2004 and then continued to expand his knowledge and experience by working at different types of facilities in the area. Rob graduated from the Golf Professional Training Program of the PGA of America and returned to the Championship Golf Course. His experience over the years includes golf shop operations, tournament operations, junior golf camps, private and group golf instruction and merchandising.
Jeff is a native of Littleton, CO and is married with two sons. Jeff has been in the golf business since 1988 and has been a superintendent since 1991. Before joining us, he was the golf course superintendent in Logan, Utah and Highlands Ranch, CO, where he also served as the construction superintendent on a new course (in Highlands Ranch). His various awards include the 2015 GCSAA Environmental Leader in Golf award, 2006 "GCSAA Environmental Leaders in Golf" award, and the "GCSAA Environmental Achievement Certification in Golf Course Development." Ryan Player grew up in Fort Fairfield, ME, on a potato farm and naturally developed a strong work ethic at a young age. After graduating high school, he moved out west to see more of the world and ended up in Lake Tahoe. Player started working seasonally at the Championship Golf Course and quickly fell in love with golf maintenance. Within his first year, he was promoted to the Irrigation Technician. He obtained his Associates of Arts degree in Landscape Architecture from Truckee Meadows Community College and was recently promoted to the Assistant Superintendent position.
Jose was recently promoted to the position of Assistant Superintendent at the Mountain Course. He served as the Maintenance Foreman at the Championship Course for seven years, after previously working as the Foreman at the Mountain Course from 2003 – 2011. He started with IVGID as a seasonal employee before quickly proving his value to the golf course maintenance operation and working his way up to a full time position.
At a young age, Bill fell in love with food and food science. After graduating from Incline High, Bill found himself at the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School in San Diego and started his career at Torrey Pines Golf Resort. Bill continued his work in the Palm Springs area and helped open Pacifica Seafood, now a mainstay of the Gardens on El Paseo. He honed his skills butchering at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, working closely with Roy Yamaguchi of Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion in Rancho Mirage and in the high-end Mediterranean fusion restaurants, Omri and Boni. In 2007, eager to return to Lake Tahoe, Bill accepted the Sous Chef position for IVGID and has worked diligently over the years to hone, advance and improve the food and beverage offerings at The Incline Village Golf Courses, Diamond Peak Ski Resort, Incline Beaches and banquets at IVGID facilities including The Chateau at Incline Village and Aspen Grove.
