Solid Waste Services Update

Learn about WM trash service effective January 1, 2027!

IVGID has entered into a new solid waste services agreement with Waste Management (WM). Find your service style below to learn more about the offerings under the new agreement.

All residential customers will be required to utilize a bear shed or a WM-provided wildlife-resistant cart for garbage service. WM will begin delivering new carts sometime this fall, with full implementation anticipated by January 1, 2027.

Residential Soild Waste Services

Bear Shed Service
  • Customers utilizing a Bear Shed must place all garbage in a container in the shed. WM will service the shed and return the containers after emptying them.
  • Customers may designate one or more containers for Recyclable Materials, or request a recycling cart.
Wildlife Resistant Cart Service
  • Carts are provided by WM, customers may choose 64-gallon or 96-gallon depending on their needs.
  • All garbage must go in the locking cart
  • Carts must close completely and latch to prevent wildlife access
  • Carts must be placed alongside a public roadway no later than 7 AM on your assigned service day
  • Carts may be placed out no earlier than 7 PM the evening prior to your assigned service day
Recycling
  • Recycling is included for all residential customers
  • Bear shed customers may designate one or more containers inside their bear shed for recycling, or use the WM provided recycling cart
  • Recycling carts are non-locking and have a blue lid (32, 64, and 96 gallon available)
  • Recyclable materials must be non-bagged, and clean of all food residue
  • Recycling carts must be placed along a public roadway no later than 7AM on your assigned service day
  • Recycling carts may be placed no earlier than 7PM the evening prior to your assigned service day
  • Repeated contamination (ie non-recyclable items) can result in removal of recycling cart
Yard Debris

The yard debris program will remain similar to the one used for the past 10 years.

  • 16 weeks, as agreed upon by WM and IVGID each year
  • 96 stickers for each residential customer
  • Each sticker may be placed on one bag of yard debris
  • Bags must be constructed of compostable materials
  • Bags will be collected during the designated weeks on your assigned collection day only
  • Bags may not exceed 40lbs
  • Bags must be placed alongside a public roadway no later than 7 AM on your assigned collection day
  • No dog waste, dirt, large branches, or rocks!
Additional Services

All residential customers are eligible for the following services, which are included at no additional cost

  • Christmas tree collection: Collected on your assigned collection day during a one-week period as agreed upon by WM and IVGID. Trees must be clean of décor and cut into sections not exceeding 3ft.
  • Sharps Collection: WM provides containers for household needles and other sharps. Please visit the customer service office at 1200 Sweetwater Rd for more info and to pick up a sharps container
  • Bulk Drop-Off: 4 free drop-offs at the Incline transfer station each year per residential account. Drop-offs may not exceed three cubic yards
  • Transfer Station Drop-off in lieu of service: Customers may drop off their weekly garbage and/or recycling at the transfer station in lieu of their household service that week. This is great if you are leaving town before trash day!
Multifamily Residential

Multifamily residential properties may elect to have individual residential service for all units or commercial service. This decision is at the sole discretion of the property owner(s).

A multifamily residential property may NOT have a mix of commercial and residential service.

Customers may order temporary bulk bins for yard debris. Pricing on the rate sheet is all-inclusive! Perfect for multifamily residential properties that are doing defensible space cleanup.

Household Hazardous Waste & E-Waste Disposal

Residents of Incline Village and Crystal Bay may drop off household hazardous and electronic waste seasonally, by appointment only. Visit the Household Hazardous Waste Program page for details and appointments.

Commercial Waste Services

Garbage

Commercial customers can elect for their appropriate level of service depending on their needs. Available services:

  • Wildlife-resistant cart
  • Bear sheds
  • Bin service (3, 4 or 6 yd)
  • Drop box service (14, 20, or 30yd)
  • Compactor service

Customers using bins can have scheduled pickup occur 1-5 times each week. Collection service available on Saturdays!

Recycling
  • All commercial service includes one 96-gallon recycling cart
  • Additional recycling service is available via additional carts, or bins.
Yard Debris

Commercial customers may order temporary bulk bins for yard debris. Pricing on the rate sheet is all-inclusive! Perfect for multifamily residential properties that are doing defensible space cleanup.
